In the 30s, a child leaving primary school, besides he also knew La Chanson de Roland, had in mind a number of "French poetries" of the Middle Ages or the Renaissance. It was not uncommon that we should learn, at school, such and such a poem by Ronsard, Du Bellay, Charles d'Orléans. The latter, particularly representative of his time, is also very accessible to ours. Roundels « Le temps a laissié son manteau » and « Hiver, vous n’êtes qu’un vilain », learnt in class, fed the first test of a budding composer who was then only twelve years old.
